If you’re planning a visit and looking for something to do, or if you’re not sure if there is enough going on to warrant a trip, we thought we would make things clearer for you. We have put together a guide to things going on throughout the next couple of months – your ultimate autumn guide to the area! Enjoy.

Melbourne Festival (19th Sept – 20th Sept)

The Melbourne Festival is one that celebrates the creative and performing arts and has firmly cemented itself in the cultural calendar of Derbyshire. Taking place over the last 10 years, the festival has been happening in this small village in the heart of South Derbyshire.

There is always an Art & Architecture trail and a showcase for lots of beautiful art. It’s your opportunity to witness over 100 of the midlands most talented artists in around 60 different locations.

It’s a brilliant weekend for those who love art and those who just want to be somewhere with a lot of buzz and energy!

Derby Feste at Derby (25th Sept – 26th Sept)

For the ninth year running, Derby City Centre will again be the main location for the Derby Feste 2015. There will be parade on the Friday evening, which will see fantastic prehistoric beasts line the streets – be careful they don’t bite you! Other events on the Friday include; a brilliant animation projected onto the Silk Mill that gives the story of people who have shaped the modern world, a captivating contemporary fire and dance spectacular, and a live outdoor Ceilidh.

If that wasn’t fun enough, the celebrations carry on all day Saturday. There are theatre and music performances, fire shows, fireworks and a breathtaking fireworks and drumming show to finish the festival on the Saturday evening.

It’s something you have never experienced before and will definitely be worth checking out!

Join a Ghost Tour at Bolsover Castle (28th October – 29th November)

This event is for the over 16s only, as it’s guaranteed to be pretty creepy! Taking place twice a day for a whole month, you will be given the experience to explore Bolsover Castle after dark. You will hear dastardly tales of dark deeds, ghostly appearances and other scary happenings that have happened within the castle.

It’s an opportunity to terrify yourself as you listen to these creepy stories whilst being taken around the location.

We suggest that you book for Halloween – the scariest day of the year!

If you can’t wait to visit, take part in or explore any of the events we have mentioned above, you shouldn’t be looking anywhere else for high quality accommodation. Our cottages are perfect for those looking to relax away from everyday life, as well as those who are ready to explore the area for a new adventure.
